Summary: how this website works today

What is handled when you visit

This website is hosted on Cloudflare, which delivers the pages to you and helps protect the site. To do this, Cloudflare processes technical information that your device sends automatically, such as your IP address and details of the pages requested, and may keep logs of requests. Cloudflare’s privacy policy says it processes this kind of data on behalf of its customers. Cloudflare operates a global network, so this processing may take place outside the UK. Our hosting dashboard may show aggregate, non-identifying traffic information. We do not use any of this to identify visitors or to build profiles of them. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.

If you email us

Emails sent to [email protected] are received through Cloudflare Email Routing, which forwards them to a mailbox we use to run BuyMetric. We receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it to reply to you, and to correct errors where you report them. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site and responding to enquiries. We do not keep messages longer than we need them for those purposes.

If you write to us

Post sent to our correspondence address is received through a business address service before reaching us. We use what you send in the same way as an email.

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data. We use service providers to run the site and email, namely hosting and email routing (Cloudflare) and the mailbox provider that receives our email. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Links to other websites

Our pages contain links to other sites, for example to sources cited in our guides, Citizens Advice, and the Information Commissioner’s Office. When you follow a link, the other site’s own privacy practices apply, and we do not control them. If we introduce affiliate links in future, following one will take you to a retailer, brand or affiliate network, which may set cookies or collect data on its own site. We will update this policy and label the pages concerned before that happens.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data we hold about you, including the right to ask for access to it, correction, erasure, restriction of its use, and to object to its use. To use any of these, contact us using the details above. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that handles personal data, such as analytics, affiliate click tracking, a newsletter, a contact form or user accounts, we will update this policy before it starts and, where the law requires, ask for your consent first. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
