Buying guides
Educational, research-based guides. They contain no product tests, no prices and no rankings, because we do not yet publish any of those.
How to read these guides. Each guide ends with evidence notes listing the published sources behind its technical statements. The guides are not the result of hands-on testing, and they do not recommend specific products. See our methodology for how we separate fact from judgement.
Start with your home, then work through navigation, suction, brushes, docks, battery, obstacle avoidance, size, software and upkeep, including what each figure leaves out.
Read the guideHow vacuum-only, hybrid and dock-washing models differ, how mop mechanisms vary, and which questions to ask before paying for mopping.
Read the guideTotal cost of ownership, features worth paying for, how to read discounts, and what price history can and cannot tell you.
Read the guideMore guides will follow as the category develops. We would rather publish a few careful pieces than many thin ones.
